TEACHERS DESERVE TO BE VALUED AND SUPPORTED

For approximately half the year, or 180 days, youth spend their days at school and in class with their teachers. While in class together, a teacher holds a lot of responsibility that expands past academics - it also requires preparedness for a wide array of emergencies, tending to students’ emotional well-being, being a student’s role model, and a student's support system.
In addition to the work done at school, many teachers' efforts extend out of school and involve tasks such as grading, lesson planning, and purchasing materials for classroom activities. These multifaceted roles deserve respect, recognition, and appreciation. When surveyed, “about half of teachers (51%) say that if there’s one thing they want the public to know about them, it’s that teaching is a difficult job and teachers are hardworking.” (1)
To provide the best possible learning opportunities to youth, teachers must be provided or have access to sufficient tools, resources, and support. In honor of this year's Teacher Appreciation Week, CYS joins in the call to provide teachers with the tools and support they need to thrive. This includes fully funded classrooms, fair wages, support staff, and proper respect for their position.
