Systems Transformation

The CYS Transformation Team works to identify and transform the policies and practices that lead to inequitable outcomes for youth. Through a data-driven approach, involving advocacy, training, and specialized consultation rooted in conflict resolution and restorative practices, CYS aims to create more supportive community systems that enable and empower youth to thrive.

Additionally, CYS aims to address the ways in which this systems also does not effectively serve the needs of parties impacted by crime and harm.

GOALS OF THE TRANSFORMATION TEAM

Equity
In school systems demonstrating inequitable outcomes for youth of color, promote acceptance of restorative justice principles and practices to end punitive practices and create more supportive environments to ensure youth thrive.

Safety Nets
Create multiple safety nets and “off ramps” to minimize youth encountering the current juvenile justice system.

Advocacy for Harmed Parties

Create creative solutions that better meet the needs of harmed parties.

Inform Public Policy
Create “proof points” to inform public policy to support ending the current juvenile justice system as we know it and replace it with a robust network of robust community-based investments and solutions to ensure youth thrive, prevent youth crime, repair harm, and respond restoratively when young people make mistakes.

Prioritize Prevention
Passionately and vociferously advocate for public investment in youth development that leads to equity of opportunity for all youth and prevention of crime to improve community safety.

Systems Transformation
Achieve systems transformation through a multi-point strategy including training, technical assistance, advocacy, and providing “proof-point” data through CYS service outcomes.
